Better yet, these physical poses all contribute to the power-enhancing effect on our minds that we're discussing this week. Yoga asana practice, doing the physical poses, makes you feel pretty good afterward, doesn’t it? Now, there are all sorts of factors at play in this phenomenon, but I want to present to you here one of the simplest, yet most powerful aspects, as explained by Amy Cuddy in her TED Talk on how your body language shapes who you are. This is one of my all-time favorites, because it offers up a giant nugget of gold that we all have just sitting in our laps.
The premise is so simple as to often be overlooked, yet it is absolutely fundamental to the physical practice of yoga. It’s this: we know that our minds can change our bodies, but more interestingly, we can actually utilize our bodies to change our minds. And I can tell you that I’ve put what she suggests into practice in my own exploits as a boss-lady entrepreneur when I feel like I don’t belong. Guess what? It really, really works. Amy says it in a way I love, “Tiny tweaks lead to BIG CHANGES.”
So, while you check out Amy's talk, take a gander below at the yoga poses I’d like to add to her repertoire of high-power poses to help us all feel more powerful and confident when we need it in our lives. 2 Minutes To Change Your Mind
Next time you need a quick dose of super hero confidence, choose at least one of these poses and take one minute on each side. From the top, left to right we have Tree Pose (Vrksasana), Warrior One (Virabhadrasana A), Warrior 2 (Virabhadrasana B), Warrior 3 (Virabhadrasana C), and Handstand (Adho Mukha Vrksasana - with or without the splits!).
One or two minutes in a pose translates to just a few breaths to change your mind and your outcomes. So, be a poser this week and let us know what changes for you. Until next time, MOJO Mob…
